Bellini, Botticelli, Titian – 500 years of Italian Art

Lovers of Italian art in a spectacular setting should head up the M40 to Compton Verney in Warwickshire.

This gem of a gallery is the only English host to ‘Bellini, Botticelli, Titian – 500 years of Italian Art` - a touring exhibition which celebrates 40 highlights from the City of Glasgow’s outstanding collection of Italian paintings.

A mini-tour of the art of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque, the exhibition includes devotional pieces – public and private, secular and historical paintings.

Highlights include ‘The Annunciation’ by Botticelli, a serene ‘Virgin and Child’ by Giovanni Bellini, Titian’s ‘Christ and the Adulteress’, a lyrical canvas by Andrea Casali – ‘The Triumph of Galatea’ and Luiga da Rios’s ‘Overlooking a canal’.

Allow plenty of time to look around the museum’s permanent collection of Neapolitan works from 1600 to 1800 and their fine collection of British Folk Art.

A few of the Folk Art pieces, including a wonderful tray by Alfred Wallis, currently hang alongside contemporary works as part of the museum’s ‘Outside In’ exhibition – a national project designed to support artists who struggle to get noticed and be part of the art world.

And don’t miss Compton Verney’s Marx-Lambert galleries - expertly redisplayed to show off her striking designs which include the 1940’s London Underground upholstery.

‘Bellini, Botticelli, Titian – 500 years of Italian Art’ is on display until 23rd June 2013. ‘Outside In’ is on display until 15th December 2013. Compton Verney is open Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays from 11am to 5pm from now until 15th December.  For more information and tickets visit visit  www.comptonverney.org.uk or call 01926 465500.
