A sparkling 264th birthday for Mozart at Norden Farm

A gifted, Mozart-focused soloist leads the annual concert to celebrate the composer’s birthday.

Pianist Rafael Ruiz plus Poppy Shotts (soprano), Rachel Porter (oboe), Helen Paskins (clarinet), Simon Payne (bassoon) and Jennifer Steele (horn) perform with St John’s Chamber Orchestra.

The orchestra, celebrating its 40th season, is led by Conductor and Norden Farm regular Nigel Wilkinson.

Brazilian pianist Rafael Ruiz is the soloist in one of the most sparkling of all Mozart’s piano concertos, No.17 in G, K.453.

He has won numerous awards including first prize at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro National Piano Competition and has appeared as a soloist with several Brazilian orchestras. He has performed as a chamber musician and as a soloist across Brazil and in Italy, France, Portugal and Austria.

He joins soprano Poppy Shotts for a magnificent concert aria with piano obbligato.

Also in the programme are Mozart’s Divertimento in F, K.138; Sinfonia concertante in E , K.297b; and Ch’io mi scordi di te, K.505.

This is an annual celebration of one of the most famous and influential composers of the Classical era with a brilliant young soloist.
